What is the SEUS-CP?

By Sean Mitton

http://www.seuscp.org (See interview links below)

The Southeastern United States -- Canadian Provinces Alliance (SEUS-CP) is a strategic partnership between states in the southeastern United States and member  provinces from Canada. The Alliance works to promote trade and investment opportunities between and among its member states and provinces. Member states include Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Member provinces include Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

Delegations from each jurisdiction of the Alliance convene annually for a business-to-business conference. Delegations, led by state governors, provincial premiers or their designees, comprise business and industry leaders from a wide array of industry sectors. The third annual SEUS-CP Conference was held April 11 -- 13, 2010, in Biloxi, Mississippi, on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Next year's event will be held in Fredericton, NB.

The Canadian Expat Network interviewed numerous individuals representing Provincial Governments, commerce and trade consultants. The Alliance in it's third year of existence, continues to grow at both the government and business levels. This year's event included 400 delegates and 300 scheduled trade meetings.

It was a fast paced three day conference that focused on industries such as Advanced Manufacturing, Energy and Geospatial Technology. The Governor's Dinner included an emotional presentation on the Gulf Coast recovery following Hurricane Katrina, featuring Ricky Matthews, President  & Publisher of the Press-Resister, Mobile, AL and the Mississippi Press, Pascagoula, MS. (See Ricky Matthew's interview below)Thanks to the Mississippi Development Authority for being a great host of the event.

It was suggested that many Americans may not be aware of the significance of trade between Canada and the U.S. The reality is that Canada is the number one trade partner in 35 US States and ranks second or third in the remaining states.

See interviews from the Conference that also include interesting trade notes and website information.
