Cheese, Glorious Cheese!
By Shani R. Friedman
A new goat cheese out of Quebec
recently won top honours at the World Cheese Awards and can officially be called
the best cheese in the world. Called Le Cendrillon (i.e. Cinderella) because
it's coated with ash, is made by La Maison Alexis de Portneuf. It triumphed over
2,440 entries from 34 countries and it's the first time a Canadian cheese maker
has won. The flavour is sharp and mouth feeling. A tasty alternative to the mild
goat cheese most of us are accustomed to eating.
In New York you can find it at the
Garden of Eden Gourmet Markets.
