Battling Leukemia, request for help
Canadian Expat Network

Mandy Schwartz of Wilcox,

Saskatchewan, a Yale University senior and varsity women's hockey player,

suffers from leukemia.  There is a frantic search on for a bone marrow

donor or umbilical cord blood donor with the right DNA match to help her defeat

her foe.  Doctors believe the donor must be found within the next two

months.

Because of her

German/Ukrainian/Russian descent, it is very difficult to find a bone marrow

donor with matching DNA.  She may have better success with a matching cord

blood donor, as the risks of rejection are apparently less.  She is in

hospital in Regina and the clock is running in the third period.

Here are web sites with more

information on Mandy's situation and how people can help.
