Mississippi will host the organization's 3rd Annual Conference, to be held at the Beau Rivage Casino Resort and Hotel in Biloxi, Mississippi from April 11-13, 2010. As host of the 2nd annual conference of the Alliance in 2009, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will act as co-host to Mississippi in 2010.

The conference is expected to attract approximately 300 Canadian and U.S. business and government leaders to Biloxi in April -- presenting a unique opportunity to build linkages with key international leaders across a range of business and industry sectors.

The aim of this year's program is to present clear opportunities for enhanced commercial exchanges, two-way trade and knowledge sharing between member provinces and states. The program will specifically highlight research, trade and investment opportunities in key business sectors including:

Energy: Smart Ideas, Innovations & Renewables to Construct an Efficient Smart Grid

Global energy use fell in 2009 -- for the first time since 1981 on any significant scale -- as a result of the financial and economic crisis. But demand is set to resume its long-term upward trend once the economic recovery gathers pace. By 2030, experts predict that with no change in government policies, world primary energy demand is expected to reach a dramatic 40% increase over 2007. Efficient use of existing and new energy resources is of highest importance. This session will offer utilities and manufacturers insight into products with the latest smart grid technology, financing energy investments under a post-2012 climate framework, and prospects for renewable energy resources as well as waste remediation.
