Steve Keogh from the Vancouver Olympics

Steve Keogh, the Director of Communications for the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a veteran of 5 Olympic Games and as far as he's concerned, he's never seen the type of public support that Vancouver has shown in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Working at the games has left little time to be a fan and take in the festivities.

"My day generally starts at 5 or 6 am," Keogh states from the Olympic village. It's a busy day that includes preparing the daily press packages, updating the website and newsletters, lining up daily interviews though each Team attaché and the ongoing reception requests. There are 35 staff and volunteers on the Communications team.

"Each Olympic Games, you prepare with the understanding that challenges will occur. This year, that happened on Day 1 and more recently, with the death of Joannie Rochette's mother. It's part of the job, managing tough topics," Keogh relates.

While the results of week one didn't live up to Own the Podium expectations, the COC is optimistic about medal opportunities for week two. The weather has been great and there's been an unbelievable showing of Canadian pride.

When asked if Keogh attended any events, he mentioned he saw the Canadian shootout win over the Swiss, with Sidney Crosby scoring the game winning goal." The place just erupted. The crowds have been great", he commented.
