The Canadian Club of Houston
By Sean Mitton

Jeremy Eaves, the leader of the Canadian Club of Houston, is looking forward to watching the upcoming Olympics with other fellow Canadians in Houston. It's a great opportunity to cheer for Canadian athletes and share our heritage.

The Chatham, Ontario native was not unfamiliar with Canadian Groups in the U.S. as he participated as a member in a Canadian Meetup Group in Chicago. After taking a Sales job with Matricom in Houston during 2007, he connected with the Houston group and found out that that leader was stepping down. Eaves decided to take on the leadership position and the group of over 300 has been flourishing ever since.

Eaves comments that growth has come through word of mouth and strategic relationships. David McGregor, the Senior Consul Officer at the Houston Consulate, has been a tremendous asset to the group in helping build alliances, sponsorships and in overall mentoring. I admire the ease and the ability for Canadians to connect and build relationships," Eaves states.

The upcoming Olympics are a terrific opportunity to get together. With that in mind, Eaves was the catalyst in putting together a great Olympic event, at the end of January, which included Canadian Olympic Coach Barrie Shipley and Honorary guest, US Olympic swimmer Matt Grievers. The Canadian National anthem was sung by Canadian Astronaut Chris Hatfield who works at NASA in Houston.

The Canadian Club of Houston looks forward to the opening ceremonies and plans to have more events around some of the hockey games. While Eaves, a former triathlete, misses CBC TV and Radio, he enjoys the outdoor life in Houston and new relationships created through the group.

He encourages others to join and attend local events.
