Apple Accepts University of Windsor Alum Application for iPhone & iPod
Sean Mitton, Canadian Expat Network
Each week Apple gets hundreds of application submissions for its iPhone and iPod. Recently David Coyle's submission of "Deckster" was accepted. The native of Kingston, Ont. thought it would be interesting to have a simulation of a real deck of cards with the simulation is so authentic that you have to take the cellophane of the deck to use the cards. Coyle discussed in a recent interview the application process and what's next for Deckster.
The development process took approximately two months and was written in Objective C with additional collaboration with his brother Robert who resides in Windsor. Robert was responsible for the custom art work, while David wrote the code. "A good portion of that time was in learning the language, Coyle stated. Cards are such a social activity and we wanted to make it ridicously easy to use." Coyle paid the $100 Apple developers fee and followed the developer guidelines. After testing to make sure Deckster was stable, the application was uploaded for the Apple review process where apps get accepted or rejected. Fortunately, it was accepted.
Coyle has plans to make the application more interactive and possibly becoming an income generator one day. He's also currently in the process of submitting a separate app based on a magic trick.
Coyle who received his Batchelor and Master's degree of Geology at the University of Windsor, Ont. has also lived in Toronto, Germany and presently in North Carolina.
