Atlanta Canadians Celebrating 10 Years!!!

Wow, I can't believe it but it has been 10 years since I left a Thrasher game and thought...there really needs to be an ex-pat society for Canadians in the Greater Atlanta area.

Throughout the past ten years it has been a learning experience of how best to reach people, grow the membership and offer events that can interest almost everyone.

It's been wonderful to see that the membership has grown to over 1300 members since 2005 and it has been a pleasure putting on such events as the annual Grey Cup parties, turning Meehan's Sandy Springs into Canada House for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and viewing parties for the Sochi Olympic hockey games and World Junior games throughout the years! We will continue with these events and other Canadian events in the future!

As most of you are aware our signature event of the year is Canada Fest, this will also be the 10th year of hosting this event. We have grown from 150 people in 2005 to approx 700 people attending the event throughout the day in 2014. This event is now the biggest Canada Day party in the Southeast USA and one of the biggest in the USA. A few years back we realized we needed Canadian talent to make this a truly Canadian event and last year for the first time we brought in a Canadian band, The Mahones, who truly did a great job entertaining the crowd with their blend of Celtic Rock and Punk music.

This year we are very excited that we have signed Canadian rock legends Sloan to headline the event. Originally from Halifax and now based out of Toronto, Sloan has been entertaining Canadians and music fans around the world since 1991. Throughout their 20+ yr tenure, Sloan has released 11 LPs, two EPs, a live album, a Greatest hits album and more than 30 singles. The band has received nine Juno Award nominations, winning Best Alternative Album in 1997.

We will be hosting the event at the Meehan's Atlantic Station again on Saturday, June 27. I promise we will get the Poutine right this year (I'm importing the cheese curds personally!)

Lastly and somewhat most importantly, we cannot pull off this event without the help of our sponsors. As the event grows so does the cost and need for sponsors. We are looking forward to welcoming back many loyal sponsors: Unibroue, Canada Consulate General, Joe Rosen Esq, Pacifica, Trowbridge, Beer Growler Nation, Donnely. We do need more sponsors though! These sponsors help to keep ATLCanadians.com free for the members and the price for the Canada Fest down. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring ATLCanadians.com and/or Canada Fest please reach out to me, I'd love to talk to you and see what's best for all.

Hope to see everyone soon! Cocktails & Canadians scheduled for Feb 6, more details soon.
