As part of an effort to tell Canadian stories of interest The Canadian Expat Network will be writing stories about Canadian Olympic hopefuls who are competing to qualify for the Olympics in Beijing, China during the summer of this year.

While many media outlets do a great job in covering the Olympic events, I feel there is an opportunity to report on amateurs whose first goal is to qualify for the great games.

The Olympics are a great time to cheer for your country and celebrate excellence in sports. However, few of us have ever had the opportunity to travel to the games and even acquire tickets. For some of us expats, there may be an opportunity to attend Olympic Qualifying events in your area. It's a great opportunity to see World Class athletes compete.

For folks in North Carolina, they will have an opportunity to attend the Olympic qualifying event for Canoe & Kayaking in Charlotte, NC from April 25-27th.There will be approximately 30 athletes representing Canada with hopes of going to Beijing. These athletes may be from your home town or even an alumni of your University.

Please mark your calendar for the event as it will be a tremendous opportunity to see World Class performances at a fraction of the price. Next newsletter I will be writing about Olympic hopeful Nathan Davis of Vancouver, BC who will be competing in Charlotte.
